Anal skin tags are basically some firm benign overgrowth of skin around anal opening. You will have a consultation to discuss your options and create your treatment plan with our team prior to your treatment. Once you have agreed to the plan we can go ahead to book your appointment. We will remove the excess skin using local anaesthetic, meaning that the area is numbed before the procedure. After your procedure, your doctor will take you through recovery and what to expect in the weeks to come, and our dedicated aftercare team will be available to support you and answer your questions while you heal.

Skin tag removal is a straightforward process that usually takes about 30–40 minutes to complete including a brief consultation. When you finish, you can leave and return to your day immediately.

Home removal of anal skin tags can cause pain, infection or scarring. It’s much safer to visit a professional, as they use clean instruments and equipment to carefully and effectively remove skin tags.

Skin tag removal is a straightforward and speedy process. The doctor may clip it off with small scissors, or remove it other ways with, for example, a laser or with cryotherapy that uses liquid nitrogen.

Removal has been performed under local anaesthetic by a colorectal surgeon or a cosmetic surgeon, so it is a painless procedure, however, the recovery can be a little uncomfortable. Post-op instruction will make It easier to recover from the soreness.

Anal skin tag removal is an option for healthy patients that may feel insecure about skin tag growth. It is important for all candidates to have realistic expectations about the results and to desire to simply reduce friction or reduce the appearance of the area.

There are also risks involved in eliminating anal skin tags, such as pain and swelling (which usually resolves on their own) and a small risk of infection (which can be prevented through sterile practices). During the procedure there may also be some minor bleeding, this is generally managed during the procedure.

Some risks are rare but possible like, if healing takes extended than six weeks, treatment may be required, a non-healing wound recognised as anal fissures. Despite the area being repaired, there is a slight possibility of regrowth, and constipation soon after surgery may present a greater risk of anal fissure.
